Nigeria has recently unveiled “Service-Wise GPT,” an AI-driven assistant aimed at revolutionizing public service delivery.

Introduced by the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, during the Global Government Summit 2025 in Singapore, this tool is designed to streamline access to essential governance documents, including Public Service Rules and statutory regulations.

In its beta version, “Service-Wise GPT” focuses on simplifying administrative tasks for civil servants, thereby enhancing efficiency across various ministries.

By providing real-time assistance, the AI system aims to reduce the time spent on routine tasks, ensure regulatory compliance, and facilitate quicker decision-making processes.

This initiative aligns with Nigeria’s broader technological goals under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which advocates for increased AI integration in governance.

In 2024, the government, in partnership with Google, launched a ₦100 million fund to support AI-driven startups, accelerating innovation within Nigeria’s tech ecosystem.

The development of “Service-Wise GPT” is part of Nigeria’s National Artificial Intelligence Strategy, which outlines the country’s vision for responsible AI adoption to achieve national objectives such as job creation and social inclusion.

However, the rapid adoption of AI in Nigeria’s public sector also raises concerns about data privacy, security, and ethical considerations. Currently, Nigeria lacks specific laws regulating AI, making it essential to develop policies that address these issues to ensure responsible and transparent AI deployment.

Beyond the civil service, Nigeria’s commitment to AI is evident in its efforts to engage Nigerian-born AI scientists in developing the country’s National Artificial Intelligence Strategy.

These initiatives, coupled with investments in AI research and startups, position Nigeria as a significant player in Africa’s evolving AI landscape.

If successfully implemented, “Service-Wise GPT” could serve as a model for other African nations seeking to leverage AI for improved governance and service delivery, addressing longstanding challenges such as bureaucratic inefficiency and enhancing overall public sector performance.
