What’s the African country that you would love to visit and why?
I have a long list of African countries. Zimbabwe rose to the top of my list because I made a friend from Zimbabwe in Berlin and I am looking forward to visiting Victoria Falls. Mostly because of Victoria Falls, I identify with water a lot. That’s like my happy place. The only time I’m very calm is when I’m surrounded with water. So I would like to visit Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe.
I would also like to visit Rwanda, Kigali. I heard Kigali is a very beautiful city. My co-founder has been there and I really look forward to visiting Kigali. I’ve been to Ghana, I’ve been to Kenya. So I’m looking forward to Rwanda, Tanzania and Zimbabwe. These are like the African countries I’m very interested in visiting and it’s because of the wildlife and the tourism aspect of things. I feel like I could learn a lot as a Nigerian when I visit those places.
What’s the most underrated Nigerian food?
Hmm, the most underrated Nigerian food. To me, I’ll say the most underrated Nigerian food, I would say most Eastern cuisines are very underrated. I’ll say Afang is very underrated. People don’t talk about Afang a lot And I feel like we should talk about Afang soup a lot. So Afang soup is one of the most underrated Nigerian delicacies

How do you look after yourself in your free time?
I try to rest. I used to be a very active person, playing football and all of that. But I think with age, I prioritize things that make me sit on the couch and relax. I spend most of my free time reading. I enjoy African literature a lot. So I have a very large stash of African literature books.
And I always pick a book in a space of, maybe one week because running a startup, you don’t really have all the time in the world to read. But during my free time, I try to read. I am a football fan, not a fanatic, just a fan. I’m a Man United fan. So I watch the Premier League when I’m free on weekends.
Also I cook and I do a bit of painting. So painting is the only therapeutic thing that I do. I find it very therapeutic when I paint on canvas, so I have lots of different paintings that I’ve created at different points in time. So those are the things I do in my free time.
What has been the most humbling moment in your journey as an entrepreneur?
Two actually. The first one was when we were fulfilling a contract in the north. So during the course of the training, one of the supervisors from the parent organization came in and we found the trainers, we, the co-founders of Crop2Cash in T-shirts and jeans. This was 2018, so I imagined how young we looked then.
And then the person walked up to the other person, I was like, are these the guys that they are deploying? The person was like they look so young, what’s their competence level like? And then I heard the person and I looked back, and I’m like, it just shows that you might not be too young to do something that is bigger than you. You just have to have the courage sometimes. So it was very humbling for me.
Another humbling moment was I was supposed to have a meeting with someone at the office and the person got to the office. I went personally downstairs to receive the guest and then the person was like, no, I’m not here for you. I’m here for your boss. So I had to go back upstairs and then send our admin person to bring the person upstairs.
And then the person was like, oh, apologies, I didn’t think you were going to be so young. You sounded so old on the phone and I was like no problem. It’s absolutely fine and all of that. So those are very humbling moments because you look around and you discover that you’ve built something that is bigger than you and you should be proud of that. So it’s very humbling.

What’s one thing that you would love people to know about you?
One thing that I like people to know about me is I have dreads and the face and all of that. And I don’t smile most of the time, but then I am a very fun person. So people should just look past the dreads and the beard and all of that. And when people get to meet me, get to talk to me, they get to see the fun aspect.
So I would say I am more fun than I look because most times I can just stand and just have a blank stare. I think I’m more fun than I look. People should know that. Also I am very particular about things that I care about and things that I’m passionate about.
But one thing I’m very passionate about is solving problems. And that started from Crop2Cash. So I’ve developed a problem solving mindset. So most times I’m the friend you call when you need solutions most times.
That’s one thing that I always like people to know that whenever there’s something, just let me know. Even if I cannot provide a direct solution, I can point you or give a strategy around something. So that’s what I like to know about me
