MultiChoice, Africa’s leading entertainment firm, through its direct broadcast satellite service DStv, has announced a multi-year content distribution deal with Disney Company Africa, one that will allow it to retain its current portfolio of Disney linear channels until 2027.
This comes almost 2 years after Disney+ teamed up with the pay-TV operator to debut in the South African market. The partnership kick-started a new phase of international expansion for the American streaming platform, as it planned to launch in 42 countries across 11 territories.
Rejuvenating the deal means 6 of Disney’s popular round-the-clock channels such as National Geographic, National Geographic Wild, Disney Channel, Disney Junior, ESPN, and ESPN2 will remain on DStv’s airing catalog for the next 4 years. They will be available via the DStv Explora Ultra decoder.
The pair of sports channels will, as usual, provide access to access to tournaments hosted by bodies like the US National Basketball Association (NBA), National Football League (NFL), Major League Baseball (MLB), and the National Hockey League.
Christine Service, senior vice president, and general manager of The Walt Disney Company Africa, said: “This distribution renewal ensures that we will be able to continue bringing our six 24-hour channels to audiences across the continent and marks another proud milestone in our long-term relationship with the MultiChoice Group.
“With a strong foundation of creativity, story-telling, exploration, and multi-generational emotional connection, we are proud to continue offering DStv viewers the very latest from our high-quality, premium kids, factual, and sports content,” she added.
