Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – Ethiopian streaming platform habeshaview has celebrated its 10th anniversary, marking a decade of streaming Ethiopian and African stories to global audiences.
Founded in 2015 with a simple goal, to make Ethiopian and African films accessible to viewers everywhere, habeshaview has evolved into one of the region’s most prominent digital platforms for local storytelling.
What started as a small vision to connect people through film has now become a vibrant streaming service that bridges cultures and showcases the best of our storytelling talent.
The anniversary event, held last week in Addis Ababa, brought together filmmakers, actors, producers, partners, and long-time supporters. It was both a celebration and a reflection on the platform’s journey, from its early startup days to its current role as a major player in Ethiopia’s digital media space.
“We started with a small vision to create a space where our stories could be seen and shared proudly,” Tigist Kebede said in a statement. “Ten years later, that vision has grown beyond what we imagined. We’re grateful to everyone who has been part of this story, our filmmakers, our viewers, and our partners.”
habeshaview also reaffirmed its commitment to supporting African creators, investing in local film production, and expanding its catalogue of authentic, homegrown stories.
The celebration drew representatives from Ethio Telecom, Ethiopian Holidays, Safaricom Ethiopia, and diplomatic missions including the Embassy of France in Ethiopia and the Embassy of the Sovereign Order of Malta to Ethiopia & UNECA, highlighting the platform’s growing network of partners within the region’s creative and telecommunications sectors.
As it looks to the next decade, habeshaview plans to deepen its footprint across Africa’s streaming market, continuing to build a space where Ethiopian and African stories can thrive and be seen by the world.
